IIIT-Dharwad and Raichur Receive 25-Qubit Quantum Computer Under National Quantum Mission

The Government of Karnataka on Wednesday announced the installation of QpiAI-Indus, a 25-qubit quantum computing system, at the Quantum Computing Center of Excellence (QCCE) located across the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) campuses in Dharwad and Raichur. Developed by the Bengaluru-based startup QpiAI in April 2025, this superconducting quantum computer forms part of India’s ambitious National Quantum Mission. The system is expected to advance research and experimentation in quantum computing, offering students, researchers, and tech enthusiasts the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology. The installation marks a significant step in India’s journey towards establishing itself as a global hub for quantum technology, encouraging domestic innovation while also attracting collaborative projects with academic and industrial partners. Officials stated that the initiative will provide hands-on training and practical exposure in quantum algorithms, cryptography, and computational modelling. The QCCE aims to nurture talent and build a strong foundation for quantum research, fostering a new generation of scientists and engineers who can contribute to India’s technological self-reliance. This effort also aligns with the government’s vision of strengthening quantum capabilities across the country through strategic investments and research initiatives.
