Alibaba Boosts AI Investments and Partners with Nvidia to Develop ‘Physical AI’

Alibaba’s stock saw a significant boost after the company’s leadership announced plans to ramp up investments in artificial intelligence (AI). At an industry conference in China, CEO Eddie Wu revealed that the company will surpass its previously planned $53 billion investment in AI infrastructure over the next three years. This announcement follows a major update to Alibaba’s open-source large language model, Qwen, and a new collaboration with Nvidia. The partnership will see the integration of Nvidia’s AI development tools into Alibaba Cloud to help build ‘physical AI,’ which includes robotics and autonomous vehicles. Alibaba’s stock rose by 8%, reaching its highest point since October 2021. Despite concerns that AI spending could strain Alibaba’s cash flow, analysts are optimistic about the long-term revenue growth potential, especially in the cloud computing sector. The company’s stock has already surged by more than 108% this year, with a 31% gain in September alone. The e-commerce sector, including Alibaba, has shown strong performance despite global challenges. With its AI investments, Alibaba aims to solidify its position as a major player in the rapidly growing AI industry.
