Amazon S3 Enhances Security with External Access Summary Feature

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new security feature for Amazon S3 that allows users to view a comprehensive external access summary across all their S3 buckets directly from the S3 Console. This feature is powered by AWS IAM Access Analyzer and helps users quickly identify which buckets have public access or cross-account permissions without manually reviewing each bucket’s settings. Previously, users had to inspect each bucket individually and across various AWS regions, making it time-consuming to detect misconfigurations or external access risks. With this new tool, users can consolidate their findings and improve their security posture by rapidly detecting any potential vulnerabilities. The summary is available in all AWS regions and comes at no additional cost. To enable this feature, users need to ensure their IAM role has appropriate permissions and set up an Account-Level Analyzer in the IAM section. This improvement simplifies auditing, enhances cloud security visibility, and helps ensure that all S3 buckets across an AWS account are properly secured.
