AMD Ryzen 9 3900 65W Processor Breaks Overclocking World Records
The AMD Ryzen 9 3900, a 12-core, 24-thread processor with a low 65W TDP, has achieved impressive world records in overclocking. Despite having lower base clock speeds compared to its higher-power counterpart, the Ryzen 9 3900X, the 3900 still performs admirably. At stock, it operates at a base frequency of 3.1 GHz, with boosts up to 4.35 GHz under load. The real surprise comes when overclocked. Using both ambient and sub-zero cooling methods, the Ryzen 9 3900 was pushed to a stable 4.35 GHz at 1.375 vCore in Cinebench R15, a noteworthy achievement. However, when subjected to extreme liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling, it hit even more impressive figures, achieving world-record scores in Cinebench R15 and Geekbench 3 at 5.5 GHz and 5.475 GHz respectively. This underlines the chip’s exceptional overclocking potential, even with its relatively low TDP. Given its performance and lower power consumption, the Ryzen 9 3900 could be a better value proposition compared to the 3900X, particularly for users seeking powerful but energy-efficient processors for small form factor builds. Although it has slightly lower boost clocks, the trade-off might be worthwhile for those willing to overclock. This chip could offer an excellent balance between performance and efficiency.
