Android Auto 14.1 Beta Introduces Limited Gaming and Fullscreen Mode

Google is expanding Android Auto’s functionality by introducing limited gaming support and fullscreen apps in its latest beta update, version 14.1. The update allows users to play select Android games, including Candy Crush Soda Saga, Angry Birds 2, Farm Heroes Saga, and Beach Buggy Racing, on their car’s touchscreen while parked. However, the games require prior installation on a connected smartphone, and they immediately close when the vehicle is in motion to prevent distractions.

The introduction of fullscreen support in Android Auto marks a significant change, potentially paving the way for other app categories to take advantage of the expanded display. This move aligns Android Auto more closely with Google’s built-in car software, which already supports a broader range of gaming features.

Although gaming support was initially announced as part of Google’s March feature drop, the company has not confirmed when it will exit beta testing. The update builds upon earlier gaming efforts from Google, such as the HTML5-based GameSnacks service introduced in 2021. As Android Auto evolves, it remains to be seen if additional games and fullscreen capabilities will be made available in future updates.
