Android Users Can Now Edit Messages Sent to iPhones, But Some Limitations Remain

Google has started rolling out the ability for Android users to edit RCS messages sent to iPhones, a feature previously unavailable in cross-platform messaging. This new capability, made possible by the Universal Profile 3.0 specification, allows users to long-press a sent message within a 15-minute window to edit and resend it. However, there are some issues: the edited message appears as a new message on iPhones, and iPhone users cannot edit messages sent to Android devices. The feature is still in limited testing, and not all users have access to it yet. The rollout is taking place in stages, with some Android users already receiving the update. While this new ability improves the cross-platform texting experience, it highlights ongoing differences in how Google and Apple handle messaging. The hope is that full support for message editing, along with end-to-end encryption, will come in future updates. The feature is available for those with the latest iOS 18.5 and the iOS 26 beta. As of now, iPhone users are still waiting for the ability to edit messages sent to Android devices.
