Toolkit Released to Help Unsupported Windows 11 PCs Navigate End of Windows 10 Support

A new toolkit, named ‘End of Windows 10’, has been released by The Restart Project to assist community repair groups in helping users who are unable to upgrade to Windows 11. The toolkit provides guidance for these groups on how to support users facing the end of Windows 10 support. Microsoft has already made it easier for users to extend their system’s life via the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, but many systems are not eligible for Windows 11 due to its strict hardware requirements. Critics, including The Restart Project and the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), argue that Microsoft’s efforts are insufficient, particularly for the 400 million devices that will not be able to upgrade. The toolkit encourages organizing community events, such as repair events and ‘End of 10’ parties, to help users make informed decisions. Additionally, LibreOffice is urging users to consider switching to Linux as an alternative to Windows 11. This initiative is part of the broader movement advocating for the Right to Repair and combating e-waste creation.
