Anysphere Raises $900M at $9B Valuation in Major Round Led by Thrive Capital
Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered coding tool Cursor, has secured $900 million in a new funding round that reportedly values the company at $9 billion, according to the Financial Times. The round was led by Thrive Capital, with participation from prominent firms Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel. This new funding marks a significant increase in valuation, following a $105 million round just five months earlier in December, which valued the company at $2.5 billion.
The investor interest highlights the growing enthusiasm around AI-powered developer tools, with competitors like Windsurf also drawing attention. Windsurf was reportedly in funding talks at a $3 billion valuation earlier this year and even received an acquisition offer from OpenAI. While newer investors such as Index Ventures and Benchmark are reportedly trying to join in, Anysphere’s existing investors are eager to maintain their stakes.
The investment reflects a broader trend of aggressive funding into AI-based developer productivity tools, a niche that’s rapidly becoming a key battleground for venture capital. Cursor’s strong backing and soaring valuation put it at the forefront of this growing market segment.
