Apple Unveils iPadOS 26 With Mac-Like Multitasking and Enhanced Productivity Features
At WWDC 2025, Apple introduced iPadOS 26, a significant update to its tablet operating system that leans heavily into Mac-style functionality. The highlight of the release is a new windowing system that allows users to fluidly resize app windows and freely position them on the screen, further enhancing multitasking, especially when used with Stage Manager. Other key features include a redesigned Files app with a more Mac-like list view and a new Preview app that supports PDF viewing and markup with Apple Pencil.
iPadOS 26 also brings Apple Intelligence improvements and adopts the new Vision Pro-inspired visual design language called ‘Liquid Glass’. The system update aligns more closely with iOS in terms of aesthetic but stands out in how it manages multitasking and productivity tools. Users will also gain access to the Journal app, previously exclusive to iPhone, and a new Game Overlay feature that enhances the gaming experience with chat and settings tools without needing to switch apps.
The update is available to developers immediately, with a public beta arriving in July and a full release expected in the fall. Compatible devices include various generations of iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini.
