Apple launches $899 MacBook Neo with iPhone chip for budget-conscious users

Apple has launched the MacBook Neo, its most affordable laptop ever, priced at $899. This marks a significant push by the company into the low-end laptop market, targeting budget-conscious consumers and students, as well as corporate buyers seeking Mac compatibility. The MacBook Neo features a 13.0-inch display, slightly smaller than the 13.6-inch MacBook Air, and runs on the iPhone A18 Pro chip — the first time Apple has used a smartphone processor in a Mac. The laptop comes with 8GB of RAM, a 6-core CPU, and a 5-core GPU, with 256GB of storage in the base model and an upgraded version doubling storage and including Touch ID. With a battery life of 16 hours, a full aluminium build, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 6, and a 1080p FaceTime camera, it offers a premium feel despite its lower price. The MacBook Neo supports macOS and can handle everyday tasks like browsing, document editing, photo and video work, and videoconferencing. Apple hopes the affordable device will draw new users into its ecosystem, potentially boosting sales of other products like iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches. The laptop will be available for pre-order immediately, with deliveries starting on 11 March. This launch follows a busy week of product announcements, including the iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air, alongside refreshed MacBook Pro and Air models.
