YouTube launches AI-powered conversational search and integrates Gemini Omni into Shorts
Google is expanding the role of artificial intelligence on YouTube with the introduction of ‘Ask YouTube,’ a conversational search tool designed to handle complex queries and follow-ups. The feature allows users to search for detailed advice, creator reviews, and other nuanced content across both long-form videos and Shorts. Currently, Premium subscribers in the U.S. on desktop can access this feature through YouTube’s experimental tools. Additionally, Google announced that its AI video model, Gemini Omni, is being added to YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app. Gemini Omni aims to enhance content creation by better understanding user intent and improving storytelling, as well as handling complex video and audio adjustments behind the scenes. This rollout comes as other platforms, including Meta and OpenAI, have faced mixed reactions to AI integration in short-form content. YouTube is also expanding its likeness-detection tool for creators aged 18 and older, allowing them to request the removal of AI-generated videos that misrepresent their image. The effectiveness of these measures will become clearer as the features are more widely adopted.
