Asrock launches new cable design to prevent GPU power cable overheating

Asrock has introduced the CB-12V2X6L600W, a new power cable aimed at preventing overheating and melting issues associated with modern, power-hungry GPUs. The cable, designed specifically for high-performance gaming PCs, supports up to 600W of power and complies with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. It features an L-type connector for easier installation and a built-in temperature sensor to monitor the power delivery and prevent dangerous overheating. The cable also uses a dual-color design, with green indicating an improper connection, allowing users to quickly identify and correct issues in their build. To ensure proper function, the cable requires an Asrock PSU from the Taichi or Phantom Gaming series, and users are advised to insert the connectors fully and avoid bending the cable. The CB-12V2X6L600W will be available for 5,980 yen (around $40) starting August 29. This development comes in response to increasing reports of overheating power cables affecting GPUs from both Nvidia and AMD, though the phenomenon remains controversial. Asrock assures that its cable design aims to mitigate these risks and provide peace of mind for PC builders.
