Canon Expands EOS VR System Compatibility with Apple Vision Pro for 3D Video and Photo Integration

On June 10, 2025, Canon Inc. announced a major update to its EOS VR System, enhancing compatibility with Apple’s immersive media formats. Two of Canon’s 3D VR lenses—the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE and the RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE—will support the Apple Projected Media Profile (APMP), which is set to be introduced in visionOS 26 for the Apple Vision Pro headset. This compatibility allows users to convert VR footage using Canon’s EOS VR Utility app for native playback on Apple devices.

Additionally, the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens, released in late 2024, will gain support for Apple’s ‘spatial photo’ format. This enables users to capture immersive still images with depth perception, especially when paired with Canon’s EOS R7 and EOS R50 V mirrorless cameras. Furthermore, the original EOS R50 model will also receive firmware support in July 2025 to enable use with the EOS VR System.

Canon first launched the EOS VR System in 2021 and has since supported various industries such as entertainment, tourism, and education. With this latest update, Canon aims to bolster its position in the growing 3D and spatial media market through deeper collaboration with Apple, making it easier for content creators to produce high-quality immersive media.
