China Achieves Milestone in Rocket Reusability with Successful Recovery of Long March 10B
China has made history by successfully recovering the Long March 10B rocket after its inaugural flight, becoming the second country to master reliable rocket reusability technology. The achievement marks the world’s first recovery of an orbital-class rocket using a wire arrestment system. Launched from the Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Center, the 63.6-meter-tall rocket lifted off with seven engines burning liquid oxygen and kerosene. After reaching the Karman Line, the first-stage booster separated and landed via a novel recovery method. The second stage then deployed a satellite into its target orbit. This breakthrough positions China as a leader in space technology, reducing costs and enabling more frequent launches. The success underscores advancements in aerospace engineering and international competition in reusable rocket systems.
