China’s C909 Aircraft Launches First Flight on Nanchang–Macau Route

China’s first domestically produced jet-powered aircraft, the C909, completed its inaugural flight between Nanchang and Macau on September 10, 2025, marking a significant milestone in China’s aviation industry. The flight, operated by China Eastern Airlines, carried 85 passengers and is part of the newly launched Nanchang-Macau route, which will offer three weekly round-trip flights. This route is expected to improve connectivity between the two cities, fostering economic, cultural, and tourism exchanges. During a ceremony at Nanchang Airport, Pun Wa Kin, president of the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM), noted the importance of this new service in strengthening ties between the regions. The C909, a domestically developed aircraft, represents China’s growing technological capabilities and serves as a source of national pride, especially as it breaks the longstanding dominance of Boeing and Airbus. Passengers on the inaugural flight described the experience as smooth and comfortable, with one noting that it was a significant achievement in China’s aviation history. The new route increases direct connections between Macau and various mainland cities, enhancing the region’s international and regional connectivity.
