Omoway Launches the Omo X: A Self-Driving Electric Scooter with Advanced Features

Omoway, a Chinese company, has unveiled its latest innovation, the Omo X, a self-driving electric scooter. Set to be released in 2026, the Omo X boasts a range of premium features, such as adaptive cruise control, remote summon, self-parking, and even automatic reversing and self-balancing at low speeds. This scooter represents a major leap in autonomous technology, traditionally found in cars, now tailored for two-wheelers. One of the standout features of the Omo X is its modular frame, which can be reconfigured to suit different types of riders. This flexibility makes it appealing to markets like Indonesia, which has a high number of two-wheelers and is rapidly shifting towards electric models. The scooter’s Halo architecture includes collision warning, emergency brake assist, blind spot monitoring, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. These features could significantly improve urban mobility by enabling tasks such as self-driving to a charging station. However, there are concerns about the added costs and complexity of these smart functions, particularly in developing markets where service infrastructure may be limited. Priced around €3,500 ($3,800), the Omo X could face challenges in terms of affordability and long-term support. Despite these challenges, Omoway is looking to expand the scooter’s reach beyond Indonesia to global markets.
