Cloudflare Introduces Open-Source Framework for Secure AI Workloads

Cloudflare has open-sourced Cloudflare OS, an Apache 2.0-licensed platform designed to let organizations build AI agents, apps, and workflows using curated company data and tools within isolated, governed environments. While the name suggests a traditional operating system, it is actually a framework for securely managing organizational AI workloads. The platform combines three key components: an agent workspace grounded in context and skills curated by the organization, a security and governance framework for safe access to internal data and services, and a platform for personal, modifiable apps that users can build, share, and continue changing. Cloudflare OS starts with a conversation in your browser, similar to other AI tools, but distinguishes itself by grounding each interaction in the context and skills specific to the organization. This allows the workspace to draw on organizational knowledge and work with existing tools and data to achieve goals. The platform is already used internally at Cloudflare and aims to provide a secure environment for AI development, addressing concerns about data safety and governance. Critics have questioned the misuse of ‘operating system’ terminology, arguing it’s more of an AI sandbox than a traditional OS. The initiative highlights Cloudflare’s focus on integrating AI into enterprise workflows while maintaining security and control.
