Microsoft Copilot on Windows Adds Document Creation and Gmail, Outlook Integration

Microsoft has updated its Copilot app on Windows to enable users to create Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF documents directly from the chat interface. This new feature simplifies turning ideas, notes, and data into editable and shareable documents with just a prompt, eliminating extra steps or tools. For responses longer than 600 characters, Copilot offers a default export button to send text directly to Office files or PDFs. Additionally, Copilot now supports linking Gmail and Outlook accounts, allowing users to access and search emails and contacts within the app. This connection is optional and requires explicit user permission via the connectors section. Other integrations include OneDrive, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts, which resemble earlier OpenAI ChatGPT integrations for cloud file access. This rollout is currently available to Windows Insiders and will extend to all Windows 11 users in time. The update precedes a new OneDrive app planned for next year, which will feature AI-generated slideshows, a gallery view, and enhanced editing tools. This update exemplifies Microsoft’s ongoing effort to embed AI productivity directly into Windows workflows.
