Debian 13 ‘Trixie’ Launches with Improved Performance and New Features

The Debian project has officially released Debian 13 ‘Trixie’ after over two years of development. This new stable release is supported for five years and includes major updates, such as the addition of desktop environments like GNOME 48, KDE Plasma 6.3, and Xfce 4.20. With more than 14,100 new packages, Trixie now includes 69,830 packages in total, and a significant number of updates to existing software, including the GNU Compiler Collection, GIMP 3.0.4, LibreOffice 25.2, and the Linux kernel 6.12. The release also marks the official support for the riscv64 architecture, alongside the discontinuation of the i386 architecture for regular use. Furthermore, Debian 13 brings updates to cloud images, which are now available for platforms such as Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, and OpenStack. For those who prefer to test the OS before installation, Debian provides live images for various desktop environments and allows for installation from USB or DVD. Upgrades from Debian 12 ‘Bookworm’ are also streamlined, though users are encouraged to back up their data before proceeding. Overall, Debian 13 ‘Trixie’ remains faithful to its promise as ‘The Universal Operating System,’ catering to various use cases from personal desktops to large-scale server environments.
