How to Protect Your Privacy from Google’s Gemini AI Spying on WhatsApp

WhatsApp, known for its privacy concerns, has recently faced a new challenge: Google’s Gemini AI. Since July 2025, Gemini has been actively spying on users through WhatsApp, capturing everything on their screens, including typed messages. While WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has long been criticized for handling user data poorly, Google’s interference is a new development. Even if users have disabled access to their data, Gemini continues to track WhatsApp activity and stores it on Google servers for up to 72 hours. US users have received emails from Google explaining that human employees and external contractors may review this data. Google’s integration of Gemini into Android makes it difficult to avoid its prying eyes, but there are ways to limit its access. You can disable Gemini in your device settings, manage app permissions, or restrict data collection via Google account privacy settings. Additionally, being cautious about sharing sensitive information online can help safeguard your data. Google insists that data is only transferred when users actively engage with the AI, but even so, this raises serious privacy concerns.
