Google Unveils Major AI Upgrades and New Devices at I/O 2025

At its annual I/O 2025 event, Google introduced sweeping updates centered around artificial intelligence. The most notable change is the replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini, an AI agent capable of handling complex tasks such as reading camera inputs, managing voice commands, and generating context-based email replies that reflect a user’s personal writing style. Gemini’s most advanced features will be offered through paid tiers, with the top-level AI Ultra plan costing $250 per month.

For creatives and developers, Google introduced tools like Jules, an AI coding assistant, and Imagen 4, a more advanced image generator. Additionally, Flow, a new generative video platform, and Veo 3, an improved video engine, allow for animation from prompts and deeper realism.

Google also revamped its Search with a more interactive AI Mode that handles complex queries, aids in shopping decisions, and offers virtual try-ons and augmented reality features. Meanwhile, Android XR, Google’s mixed-reality initiative, showcased glasses that display live AR content, with partnerships including Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

In environmental efforts, Google announced Fire Sat, an AI-enabled satellite project to detect wildfires early, and highlighted the use of drone deliveries during emergencies. The event showcased Google’s aggressive move into AI-powered hardware, software, and disaster response solutions.
