Food delivery drones to launch in the UK by 2026, but some locals raise concerns

An Irish startup, Manna Aero, plans to introduce its food delivery drones in the UK by 2026, pending regulatory approval. The company, which has already conducted over 200,000 drone deliveries in Ireland, Finland, and Texas, aims to expand into the UK, a crucial market for its growth. These drones, designed to carry up to 23kg of food, operate autonomously and can deliver a variety of items, from burgers to fresh meat. While the company touts their environmental and business benefits, including shorter delivery times and reduced road congestion, not everyone is thrilled. Residents in areas where the drones have been tested, like Dublin, have raised complaints about the noise, which they find stressful and similar to the sound of helicopters. Despite these concerns, Manna’s CEO, Bobby Healy, believes that the issue is one of perception and that public acceptance will grow over time, as it did with other technological advances. Critics argue, however, that the regulatory framework in Ireland is more drone-friendly than in the UK, which could delay the rollout of drone delivery services in Britain. The initiative is part of a broader trend, with companies like Amazon also exploring the potential of drones for deliveries in the UK.
