Kwanzahub: Supporting Tanzanian Youth to Innovate and Earn While Waiting for Jobs

In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a new innovation platform called Kwanzahub is bringing hope for young innovators and recent graduates who are struggling to find formal jobs. Founded by Mihayo Wilmore, a computer systems specialist, the hub offers a space where youth can develop, refine, and commercialise their innovative ideas while gaining professional skills. Kwanzahub provides mentorship, leadership and management training, support in intellectual property protection, and guidance on meeting investment standards. The hub also plans to collaborate with local and international partners to fund promising ideas. Besides supporting innovation, the hub offers flexible work opportunities for professionals who want extra income and keeps its office open 24/7 to accommodate different schedules. Its Twigalpha Thinkathon programme recruits small groups of participants for six months of skills development, allowing graduates to build portfolios, earn income, and prepare for the formal job market. By promoting scientific, technological, and digital discussions, Kwanzahub aims to nurture a new generation of thinkers who can contribute to national development in Tanzania. The initiative reflects a growing effort to diversify opportunities beyond political debates and create an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship among youth.
