Detailed Look Inside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Highlights Repairability and Engineering Challenges

YouTuber JerryRigEverything has dismantled the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 in a detailed teardown, revealing both the engineering achievements and the remaining vulnerabilities of the foldable device. The teardown highlighted the sturdy bumpers surrounding the 6.9-inch folding display, designed to protect the screen and prevent debris from entering the hinge. The inner display proved fragile during removal, while the smaller cover screen continued functioning despite component removal. Samsung’s ultra-thin glass layer under the plastic sheets was observed, demonstrating its flexibility but also its tendency to crack under stress. A new protective strip between the screen and hinge was added, though dust still managed to collect inside due to the device’s IP48 dust-resistance rating. The device features two removable batteries with a combined capacity of 4,300mAh and a redesigned “Armor Flex” hinge with multiple rails, springs, and gears to improve durability. Regular Phillips head screws throughout the device make internal repairs somewhat easier, allowing access to components like speakers and circuit boards. While the teardown confirmed that the Flip 7 cannot remain fully functional after disassembly, it provided valuable insights into Samsung’s design improvements and the ongoing challenges of foldable smartphones.
