Next-Generation Gaming Monitors at Computex 2025: Ultra-High Refresh Rates and AI Features

At Computex 2025, several manufacturers unveiled gaming monitors that push the boundaries of refresh rate technology. Asus introduced the ROG Strix Ace XG248QSG, a 24-inch 1080p monitor boasting a record-breaking 610Hz refresh rate. MSI and Acer also showcased 27-inch 1440p monitors with 500Hz refresh rates, targeting serious competitive gamers. Acer’s Predator X27U F5 stands out not only for its speed but also for its QD-OLED panel, promising exceptional color accuracy. Initially launching in Europe and China for €899, Acer is still negotiating US pricing due to tariffs. MSI’s MPG 271QR X50 also features a QD-OLED panel and introduces an innovative AI-based burn-in protection system. This system uses a sensor to detect when the user leaves, automatically turning off the display to prevent OLED burn-in, a common issue for static images on gaming monitors. While these ultra-fast monitors offer extremely low input lag, achieving frame rates above 500Hz requires top-tier hardware, such as the RTX 5090 and a powerful CPU. Technologies like Nvidia Reflex and frame generation help, but even then, such high performance is challenging and may not be practical for most users. The article questions whether these advancements are necessary for the average gamer, given the high costs and hardware demands.
