Gemini AI Assistant Arrives Early on Google TV with Updated Voice Options

Google TV users are beginning to see the early arrival of Gemini, the new AI assistant designed to replace Google Assistant, ahead of its official wider rollout later this year. Currently, the feature is confirmed on the TCL QM9K series, priced at $3,000 (currently discounted by $1,000), and is expected to expand to other devices running Android 14. Reports indicate that some Sony Bravia users have also seen Gemini appear on their TVs. Screenshots shared reveal Gemini’s setup process, which includes disclaimers about the reliability of AI responses, privacy toggles, and a user interface to select from 10 distinct voices. Unlike Android mobile devices, the voices on Google TV mirror those found on Google Nest speakers, offering consistent voice branding across devices. The names and characteristics of these voices differ from mobile options, with examples including Bloom (calm, mid-range) and Magnolia (calm, deeper). This early rollout may not be fully polished, as outdated logos are still visible in the interface, though Google has shown similar logos in promotional material. As Google TV sets with built-in ‘Hey Google’ functionality become more widespread, this early appearance of Gemini provides a preview of the upcoming integration and improvements.
