Global Smartwatch Sales Decline in 2024 Amid Apple’s Struggles

Global smartwatch sales have declined for the first time, with shipments falling by 7% in 2024 compared to the previous year. The drop is largely attributed to Apple, whose sales fell by 19%. Market research firm Counterpoint highlights the lack of significant new features in Apple’s latest smartwatches and the absence of the rumored Ultra 3 model as key reasons for the decline. Additionally, Apple faced sales and import bans in the U.S. over a patent dispute regarding blood oxygen level monitoring, further impacting its sales.

North America saw the biggest decline, while China experienced a surge in smartwatch sales, increasing from 19% to 25% of the market. Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, and Imoo gained traction, with Imoo particularly benefiting from the growing popularity of children’s smartwatches. Xiaomi also saw a 135% rise in shipments, driven by its affordable pricing strategy.

India’s smartwatch market shrank from 30% to 23%, following a boom in ultra-cheap devices that led to quality complaints. Experts predict a slight recovery in 2025, with AI features and enhanced health tracking expected to drive growth.
