Google AI Mode Introduces Virtual Try-On and Image Generation for Shopping
Google is expanding its use of generative AI in online shopping, especially within Search. One of the new features launching this fall in the US is AI Mode, which will generate images of fake outfits based on user descriptions. For instance, if someone searches for a ‘green flowy dress for a garden party,’ the AI will create images of various dresses, helping users identify the style they’re looking for. Then, Google will provide links to real-world listings of similar dresses. While this feature offers a creative shopping aid, the initial images generated will still be fake, which may be disappointing if users can’t find an exact match. Additionally, a new virtual try-on tool will be available, allowing users to upload a photo of themselves to see how clothing would look on them. This tool, which was previously a limited experiment, will now be accessible through Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images. Users can simply select a product, tap the ‘try it on’ icon, and upload a full-length photo to see a virtual representation of how the garment might appear on them. Both features aim to enhance online shopping with more personalized experiences, helping users visualize products before making a purchase.
