Google Expands Gemini AI Integration in Chrome to India, Canada, and New Zealand
Google has expanded its Gemini AI integration in Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. The feature appears as a sidebar on desktop, allowing users to interact with Google’s AI chatbot to ask questions, summarize content, create quizzes, and compare information across multiple tabs. Gemini can also connect with Google apps such as Gmail, Drive, Keep, Calendar, Maps, and YouTube to provide personalized and contextual responses. Users can compose emails, summarize YouTube videos with timestamps, schedule meetings, and get briefings directly from the sidebar. The rollout introduces support for multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, alongside English. On iOS, Gemini will appear in the address bar via a page tools icon. However, agentic capabilities, which allow the AI to take over browser tasks, remain limited to U.S. AI Pro and AI Ultra users and are not yet available in the new regions. Additionally, Gemini integrates Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool, enabling image transformations, such as visualizing furniture in a room. This update builds on Google’s earlier U.S. rollout of Gemini, enhancing productivity and AI-assisted browsing across devices.
