Google Works to Fix Chromecast Streaming Issue Affecting Second-Generation Devices
Google is actively working on a solution for an issue affecting many users of its second-generation Chromecast devices, preventing them from streaming content to their televisions. The problem, which has persisted for a second day, impacts Chromecast’s ability to connect to TVs, rendering popular streaming services like Netflix and YouTube unusable. Google has warned users against performing a factory reset, as this may complicate the resolution process, but some users had already done so before the warning was issued.
Reports suggest the issue may stem from an expired authentication certificate, though Google has yet to confirm this. The disruption began on Sunday evening, with affected users encountering error messages stating that their Chromecast could not be authenticated or was untrusted. Chromecast Audio devices have also been impacted.
This comes shortly after Google’s August 2024 announcement that it would discontinue Chromecast in favor of its newer Google TV system, though it had committed to continuing support for existing Chromecast devices. The situation has frustrated many users, who have taken to social media to express their disappointment with Google’s handling of the issue. Google has promised to provide further updates and a resolution soon.
