Google Cloud Outage Temporarily Disrupts Services Like Cloudflare, Spotify, and Replit

On June 12, 2025, a widespread internet outage was caused by a disruption in Google Cloud services. The incident began around 11:00 a.m. PT and affected various platforms including Cloudflare, Spotify, Snapchat, Discord, and AI tools like Cursor and Replit. According to Google Cloud, they started investigating the issue at 11:46 a.m. PT and had implemented mitigation strategies by 2:23 p.m. PT, expecting full recovery within the hour. Cloudflare, which depends partially on Google Cloud, confirmed some of its services were impacted, but its core systems remained operational. Meanwhile, other major cloud providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure reported no service interruptions. Thousands of users logged complaints on DownDetector, pointing to widespread disruption during the workday. Despite the scale of the issue, most services appeared to be recovering within a few hours. Companies like Spotify and Replit monitored the situation closely and worked with Google to restore functionality. This event underscores the reliance of modern digital infrastructure on a few major cloud providers and the cascading effects a single outage can trigger across multiple services and sectors.
