Google Releases Stable Android 16 for Pixel Devices with New Features and Update Guidance

Google has officially announced the stable release of Android 16 for compatible Pixel smartphones, marking a significant milestone after over six months of beta testing. The update, which became available on June 10, 2025, introduces several new features, including Live Updates—a real-time notification system similar to Apple’s Live Activities—and an Advanced Protection mode that consolidates security options into a single, user-friendly menu. However, some highly anticipated features, such as the new Material 3 Expressive design, will not be included in this initial stable release and are expected to arrive later in the year, along with additions like Intrusion Logging and Inactivity Reboot. The launch coincides with the June 2025 Feature Drop, promising additional enhancements for both Pixel and non-Pixel users, including updates for the Pixel Watch lineup. Google has also provided important guidance for users: those on the Android 16 QPR1 Beta channel must exit the beta program and downgrade to the stable release to receive the update, a process that will erase all data from the device. Only devices running Android 15 stable or on the Android 16 beta channel will receive the OTA update. This release reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to improving user experience and security across its ecosystem, with more features planned for rollout later in the year.
