Google Contacts Introduces ‘Recent Activity’ Feature to Track Calls and Messages

Google Contacts has introduced a new feature called ‘Recent Activity,’ designed to show the most recent calls and messages between you and a contact. This feature, previously available to Pixel VIPs, is now integrated directly into the app. The ‘Recent Activity’ card appears between ‘Contact Info’ and ‘Connected Apps,’ displaying call details such as time, duration, and whether the call was missed, as well as the last sent message in Google Messages. Users will also be able to view which number was used for the last communication. To access the feature fully, users need to enable SMS permissions for Google Contacts. A prompt will guide them through this process. The feature is accessible both in Google Contacts and the Google Phone app. Additionally, the update enhances widget functionality, with a homescreen widget that allows users to quickly access conversations. Version 4.58 of Google Contacts began rolling out in early July 2025 and is now becoming more widely available. This new feature brings added convenience and improves the app’s integration with Google Messages and the Phone app, similar to the functionality available to Pixel VIPs.
