Google Introduces Recovery Contacts and Enhanced Security Features for Account Protection

Google has introduced new privacy and account recovery tools aimed at enhancing security for its Android users. The key feature, called Recovery Contacts, allows users to designate trusted friends or family members to help recover their accounts if they are locked out due to lost devices or forgotten passwords. Up to 10 recovery contacts can be added, with each contact’s approval required before they can be assigned. The system generates a temporary verification number valid for 15 minutes to regain account access. Additionally, Google is implementing sign-in via mobile number as another recovery option, helping users quickly identify linked accounts and verify themselves using their previous device’s lock-screen credentials. Security enhancements also extend to messages, including on-device scam detection for Pixel devices and suspicious link warnings in Google Messages for all users. Advanced features such as key verification and QR code scanning ensure end-to-end encryption and secure message exchanges for Android 10 and later. To further educate users, Google is launching a game called ‘Be Scam Ready,’ aimed at teaching people how to recognize and avoid fraud and scams. These updates are gradually rolling out worldwide, reinforcing Google’s commitment to account security and user privacy.
