Google brings real-time headphone translation to iOS and expands global availability

Google has announced that its ‘Live Translate’ feature, which allows users to hear real-time translations through headphones, is now expanding to iOS and additional countries. Previously available only on Android in the U.S., India, and Mexico, the feature will now be accessible on both major mobile platforms in 12 countries: the United States, India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, the real-time headphone translation capability aims to make cross-language communication smoother by preserving the original speaker’s tone and rhythm. This provides a more natural listening experience, making it easier to tell who is speaking and follow conversations, whether it’s chatting with relatives or understanding travel announcements abroad. The Live Translate feature supports over 70 languages and works with any pair of headphones. Users can access it by opening the Google Translate app, selecting ‘Live Translate,’ and connecting their headphones. The expansion comes alongside Google’s global rollout of ‘Search Live,’ an AI-enhanced feature in the Google app that integrates real-time camera-based search and conversation functions. Together, these updates highlight Google’s ongoing effort to make its AI-powered tools more accessible worldwide, offering users practical ways to bridge language and contextual understanding gaps across daily situations.
