Google Expands NotebookLM AI Podcasting App to iOS and Android
Google is set to release mobile versions of its NotebookLM app for both iOS and Android, introducing users to a new AI-driven podcasting experience. The app, which is already available on the web, features an innovative Audio Overview function that transforms AI-generated research reports into podcast-style audio recaps. This tool allows users to upload documents such as PDFs, websites, and YouTube videos, then generate detailed research reports using Google’s Gemini AI. Users can interact with the app using voice input and listen to AI hosts present summaries in a conversational, engaging format.
Currently available for preorder in app stores, the NotebookLM mobile apps are expected to launch on May 20, coinciding with Google I/O 2025, where AI will be a major focus. The app interface mirrors the web version, offering features like interactive chats with AI and the ability to ask questions by voice. This mobile expansion underscores Google’s broader ambition to integrate AI into everyday digital tools and workflows.
NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature distinguishes it from competitors, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which lacks a similar podcast-style presentation despite having tools like Advanced Voice Mode. As AI-generated content continues to evolve, Google positions itself at the forefront with accessible, creative applications of its Gemini technology.
