Hackers steal personal details of 8,000 children from Kido nursery chain

A cybercrime gang has reportedly stolen the personal details, including pictures and addresses, of around 8,000 children from the Kido nursery chain, which operates 18 locations around London, as well as in the US, India, and China. The attackers have allegedly made a ransom demand and claimed to possess additional sensitive information, such as the children’s parents’ and carers’ details and safeguarding notes. Some parents and carers have been contacted directly as part of the extortion efforts. The nursery chain has yet to confirm these claims publicly, and the police are investigating the incident. The Metropolitan Police’s cybercrime unit has taken over the investigation, but no arrests have been made so far. This attack is part of a broader wave of cybercrimes targeting businesses, including an £80 million loss suffered by the Co-op supermarket chain due to a cyber-attack earlier this year. The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office has also been alerted to the breach and is assessing the situation.
