The Heybike Alpha is a new mid-drive, fat-tire electric bike built for both city commuting and off-road adventures. Priced at $1,699, it stands out for including a 500W mid-drive Mivice motor and a 680Wh battery in a market where such features often cost much more. The bike offers a natural riding experience thanks to its torque sensor, and includes a manual Shimano Altus 8-gear shifter for improved control and efficiency. With up to 60 miles of battery range and the possibility of regenerative braking, it offers reliable performance over varied terrain. The Alpha supports a payload of 400 pounds, making it useful for deliveries or heavy loads, and the 26 x 4 inch tires combined with hydraulic front suspension make it well-suited for both rough and urban roads.

However, there are a few drawbacks. Setup was complex, and the battery cover was difficult to handle, even malfunctioning after some use. The overly loud horn and a limited, unimpressive mobile app also detract from the overall experience. Still, the Alpha delivers excellent value for riders who want a powerful and versatile e-bike without breaking the bank — especially if they’re comfortable with minor DIY fixes.
