What to Expect from Google I/O 2025: Key Announcements and Schedule
Google I/O 2025, the company’s annual developer conference, kicks off on Tuesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. PDT at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. This year’s event will be headlined by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and will feature live streams on Google’s official I/O site and YouTube channel, including a version in American Sign Language. A second keynote focused on developers begins at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
The major themes of this year’s conference are expected to revolve around artificial intelligence, particularly how it integrates with Android 16, Search, and productivity tools. A significant focus will be on the Gemini AI model and its expanding role across Google’s platforms. The conference will also highlight updates on Google’s extended reality (XR) efforts, including smart glasses powered by Gemini and new computer vision features.
While no new hardware announcements for Pixel or Nest devices are anticipated, attendees can expect updates on AI Overviews in search and new capabilities like AI Mode. Android 16 will be discussed in greater depth, including its revamped design and enhanced scam-detection features.
WIRED will provide live blog coverage of the keynote, offering real-time updates and analysis for those following the announcements remotely.
