Filipino Students Targeted for Extremist Indoctrination Through Roblox

A recent report and video segment by GMA’s Resibo highlighted how the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) intervened to prevent a planned school attack in Calabarzon, Philippines. Authorities rescued seven students, including a grade 6 student, who displayed signs of violent extremism. The investigation revealed that these children were influenced through Roblox, a popular online gaming platform, and later directed to other digital platforms where extremist content and ‘mind conditioning’ occurred. Confiscated phones contained images of Nazi symbols, tactical gear, and firearms, along with instructions from foreign individuals to prepare for attacks. International precedents show similar trends in Australia and Singapore, where minors are also being targeted for radicalization via gaming platforms. Roblox’s appeal lies in its creative and customizable environment, allowing extremists to exploit young users with experiences, avatars, and games that normalize hate and violence. Analysis by the Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) found numerous accounts promoting far-right ideology, racist content, and even Holocaust denial. While Roblox hosts many positive communities, these findings highlight the need for stronger safeguards to prevent radicalization of children through immersive digital platforms.
