Google and FBI Warn Against Rising Tech Support Scams Targeting PC Users

Tech support scams are rapidly increasing, with cybercriminals impersonating major technology companies such as Google and Microsoft to trick users into believing their computers are compromised. The FBI has issued a warning that these scammers often initiate contact through deceptive pop-ups, emails, or phone calls, claiming there is a critical issue such as a virus or malware infection. Their goal is to convince victims to pay for unnecessary services or grant remote access to their devices, potentially leading to data theft, financial loss, or identity fraud. In response to this escalating threat, Google has introduced new on-device artificial intelligence protections within the Chrome browser.
