Instagram launches Instants, a feature for disappearing photos
Instagram is introducing a new feature called Instants, aimed at simplifying content sharing and taking on Snapchat once again. Instants allows users to send photos that disappear immediately after being viewed, unlike Stories, which last 24 hours. While users can react and reply to Instants, they won’t have access to Instagram’s editing tools and cannot upload pre-shot photos. The goal is to encourage sharing in real-time, similar to apps like BeReal. Despite the disappearing nature, Instants are automatically archived, allowing users to reupload them later as standard Stories. Instagram is maintaining safety measures, including the ability for users to mute or block others and for parents to control how children interact with the feature. Instants reflects Instagram’s effort to streamline its platform while still offering security and parental controls, focusing on authentic, moment-based sharing.
