Intel Cuts Over 5,000 Jobs Across Four States Amid Restructuring

Intel has announced plans to lay off over 5,000 employees across four states in the U.S. These cuts have been primarily focused in California and Oregon, with the largest reductions seen in the company’s facilities in Santa Clara and Folsom. According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings, Intel more than doubled its original layoff projections for these areas, with nearly 2,000 employees affected. The layoffs began in mid-July, with Folsom seeing cuts starting on July 11, and Santa Clara on July 15. These workforce reductions are part of a broader restructuring strategy to streamline operations and focus on more profitable areas, including its key semiconductor manufacturing business. Although the company has not revealed the exact reasons for the layoffs, it is widely speculated that the cuts are linked to Intel’s attempts to adapt to the increasing competition from companies like AMD and ARM in the semiconductor space.
