iOS 26: Comprehensive Overview of Upcoming Features and Design Changes

With WWDC 2025 just days away, Apple is expected to unveil iOS 26, introducing a significant design overhaul and new features across its ecosystem. Unlike previous naming conventions, Apple is aligning all its software versions by year, hence the jump from iOS 18 to iOS 26. The redesign, internally called ‘Solarium,’ borrows visual elements from visionOS, bringing a translucent, glass-like interface to iPhones. This includes rounded, floating menus, pill-shaped navigation bars, and simplified interface elements. Apple will also provide tools to developers for updating third-party apps to the new aesthetic.

On the functionality front, iOS 26 will introduce Apple Intelligence features such as AI-driven battery management and improvements to the Shortcuts app that use natural language for automation. Siri is set to receive context-aware, on-screen, and deeper app integration capabilities, although some of these features may not be ready at launch. A new gaming app will replace Game Center, offering better game discovery, social features, and achievements.

Other highlights include updates to Messages (automatic translations, polls), Music (animated lock screen art), and Notes (Markdown support). AirPods will gain real-time translation capabilities, and CarPlay will adopt iOS 26’s new interface. New accessibility features are also expected, such as Music Haptics and Personal Voice improvements. Compatibility drops support for iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, with advanced AI features likely reserved for newer models. The official unveiling is set for June 9, 2025.
