FBI Director Kash Patel’s Personal Email Compromised by Hackers Allegedly Linked to Iran

Iran-linked hackers have reportedly accessed and published content from the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel. The group responsible, Handala Hack Team, identifies as a pro-Palestinian vigilante hacking collective, which Western analysts suggest operates as a cover for Iranian cyberintelligence operations. Handala announced the breach on its website, stating that Patel’s email has been successfully compromised and shared images and documents publicly. A Justice Department official confirmed the authenticity of the emails, which appear to contain both personal and work-related correspondence dating from 2010 to 2019. While Reuters could not independently verify the emails, the Gmail address targeted aligns with previous data breaches catalogued by the dark web intelligence company District 4 Labs. This incident follows Handala’s recent claim of hacking the Michigan-based medical devices provider Stryker, where they reportedly deleted a significant amount of company data. The FBI has not issued an immediate response, and the hackers have not replied to direct messages requesting comment. The breach raises concerns over the security of personal accounts of high-level officials and the increasing threat posed by state-affiliated cyber operations.
