IXI secures funding to develop autofocus technology for prescription glasses

IXI, a Finnish startup, has secured $36.5 million in funding from several investors, including the Amazon Alexa Fund, to develop revolutionary autofocus technology for prescription eyewear. The company is aiming to address the growing issue of presbyopia (age-related farsightedness), providing a solution for people who need multiple pairs of glasses for different vision needs. The technology works by integrating eye-tracking systems with liquid crystal lenses, allowing the glasses to automatically adjust to the wearer’s vision requirements. The goal is to simplify the lives of those who rely on multiple glasses or varifocals, offering a single pair of glasses that can adjust to various distances. IXI’s glasses will have a built-in eye-tracking device that ensures clarity without the need for manual adjustments. The company, previously known as Pixieray, has a team with experience in advanced mobile technology from Nokia and Varjo, a mixed-reality company. With prototypes expected later this year, IXI aims to revolutionize the eyewear industry by introducing seamless, smart vision correction.
