Open-Source Tool to Simplify Desktop Browsers by Removing AI and Unwanted Features

Just the Browser is an open-source project designed to streamline desktop web browsers by removing unwanted features such as AI integrations, telemetry, sponsored content, and other distractions. The project uses configuration files and group policy settings intended for enterprise environments to modify popular browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox without altering their core applications. Installation can be done easily via automated scripts or manual guides on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Key modifications include disabling AI-powered features like Copilot in Edge, shopping and price tracking tools, sponsored content on new tabs, default browser reminders, first-run data import prompts, telemetry collection, and automatic startup boosts. Users retain the ability to revert or adjust these changes using the provided guides or scripts. Mobile platforms such as Android and iOS are currently not supported. The approach ensures mainstream browsers remain functional and secure while removing features many users find unnecessary or intrusive. The project does not install ad blockers, but users can combine it with tools like uBlock Origin if desired. The browser may display messages like ‘managed by your organization’ due to the use of enterprise settings, which is normal and does not compromise security.
