KillBait, a news aggregator developed by journalism and web development professionals, has announced that it will temporarily leave the Fediverse and suspend its Mastodon-compatible API. The team had integrated KillBait with ActivityPub to participate in the decentralized ecosystem, aiming to reach new audiences and enhance visibility. While the technical and community experience was enriching, the exponential growth in network traffic, cryptographic verification, and server operations created unsustainable infrastructure demands.
