LG Partners with Zenapse to Deliver Emotionally Targeted Ads on Smart TVs
LG has entered into a multiyear licensing agreement with Zenapse to incorporate emotionally intelligent advertising into its smart TVs. The collaboration aims to enhance ad relevance by using AI to analyze users’ emotions, personality traits, and lifestyle choices based on their viewing habits. Zenapse’s technology, ZenVision, utilizes scripts, behavioral data, and content recognition to segment viewers into niche psychographic groups like ‘social connectors’ or ‘goal-driven achievers.’ These insights will allow advertisers to tailor ads more precisely across LG’s webOS platform, including its home screen and free ad-supported TV channels. The move reflects a broader trend in connected TV advertising, which is growing rapidly in the U.S. and projected to reach $40 billion by 2027. While LG views this innovation as a way to improve user experiences, it also raises concerns over user privacy and data tracking. With webOS present in 35% of U.S. households, this initiative could influence other smart TV platforms to adopt similar strategies. Ultimately, this partnership exemplifies the increasing use of AI to shape consumer experiences, blurring the line between entertainment and marketing.
