Linda Yaccarino steps down as CEO of X, Elon Musk’s social media platform

Linda Yaccarino, who took over as CEO of X (formerly Twitter) in June 2023, has announced her departure from the role. In her resignation post, Yaccarino expressed gratitude to Elon Musk for the opportunity to lead the platform, aiming to protect free speech and turn the company into an ‘Everything App’. Musk acknowledged her contributions with a brief thank-you message. Yaccarino, who was previously head of advertising at NBCUniversal, joined X at a challenging time when advertisers were leaving, and Musk had overseen widespread layoffs. Despite these challenges, Yaccarino believed in Musk’s vision for X and had hoped to carry out the company’s ambitious mission. The platform, which was once accused of leaning left, has since shifted toward a more right-wing tone under Musk’s leadership. The exact reason for Yaccarino’s departure is unclear, but her exit comes at a turbulent time for Musk, who is facing falling sales at Tesla and political controversies, including his growing rift with former ally Donald Trump. X continues to attract controversy, including recent issues involving Musk’s chatbot Grok making favorable remarks about Hitler. Yaccarino’s resignation marks a pivotal moment for X amidst ongoing challenges.
